Senior Mattie Boortz can be seen on nearly any given day sporting the latest and trendiest clothing as she walks down the hallways. Going to her closet to choose her stylish combinations becomes much easier with the help of this year’s fashion week.

“The fashion trends that I’m incorporating into my wardrobe from fashion week are bold colors and patterns, especially stripes,” Boortz said.

As the fashion industry continues to shift and retire old trends to introduce new ones, it can be a challenge to stay on top of the latest looks. Fashion week is the ultimate hub of cutting edge designs and fads, where all of the most popular designers present their most updated looks on the runway.

“Pinterest can only help so much when it comes to picking out cute outfits. I love watching fashion week through social media like Snapchat because it gives me a look into what celebrities and the most fashionable people are wearing,” senior Abby Jackson said.

Fashion week comes at a convenient time for fashion addicts because it is only a few weeks before the cold weather comes, creating the perfect opportunity for big brands to showcase fall collections and styles as a shift from the summer style. Summer trends like cropped tops and sandals are ushered out and sweaters and boots are welcomed.

“This fall, I’m wearing knee high boots, bomber jackets, oversized sweaters, chunky heels, and lots of denim,” junior Caroline Rhodes said.

Some trends are even versatile enough to carry fashion lovers through the winter. Purchasing winter clothes now gives customers the first pick on the newest trends, as well as cheaper prices because there isn’t much demand yet for heavy fabrics.

“I’d have to say my most favorite trend right now is definitely fur. I love a good fur vest or coat to layer in the fall and winter,” Boortz said.

Local boutiques are also highly influenced by the hype of fashion week. For Riff Raff, a store located in Fayetteville, their new merchandise post-fashion week is less influenced by the actual design trends of fashion week and more by the celebrities that attend the event.

“I think it hypes up celebrities and we do a lot of things with celebrities and viral topics, but I don’t think the trends actually impact what we sell. Riff Raff customers are more trendy, rather than stylish,” Riff Raff branding, social media and graphics director Alex Bodishbaugh said.

For other boutiques like Klothe in Bentonville, fashion week effects the products that they present to the media in order to cater to the customer base to give insight into fashion week and show which clothes from their store can be used to recreate some of the looks from the runway.

“At Klothe during fashion week, I participated in a blog where I modeled different street styles we saw at fashion week. We just try to use what we have and show shoppers that we have the same type of stuff and that you can create a street style look with any type of clothing item,” senior Sarah Gill said.

As fall fashion week effects several different areas of the fashion world, be sure to look out for all the latest inspiration, whether on social media or through the school hallways.
