As her pencil drops on the desk repeatedly, creating a beat that continues to aggravate the kids around her, junior Peyton Wilson taps out a piece playing in her head.

The band is large community that is made up of 250 students, with 20 students participating in drumline. The drumline is a known, fun spirited part of this community.

“It has made me really disciplined because there are a lot of exercises and music that I do not really want to practice, but I have to for the good of the group.I think it has just made me realize that doing stuff for the good of the team is better than being selfish and slacking off,” Wilson said.

Being around the same people for hours a week has really created bonds and connections among the people on drumline. The band rehearses as a whole band in the morning from eight to nine thirty,  once a week they have a sectional for about two hours after school, and again as a whole band once a week for two and a half hours.

“I have made so many new friendships with all the people on drumline, and we are all a pretty close group. It just developed my love for music even more, especially being around the people that influence that, “ sophomore Carly Day said.

Football games every Friday night only creates more time for the drumline to spend together. They travel with the football team wherever the game may be, putting all their efforts from practice into their performance in the game.

“They [football games] are so much fun. It is just fun being with everyone and everyone wishing they were in drumline,” Day said.

Band starts practice before school begins, giving students time to meet new people.

“Drumline has helped me in high school just because when I was a sophomore, I did not know that many people. It helped me know a lot of people before school started, so when I got to my classes I had some friends already, “ senior Keaton Hurlbut said.

The drumline has exposed members to a new way to enjoy music and new people who spend a fair part of their high school career together learning and growing.
